Each of the Department's prison facilities has an on-site infirmary capable of treating an array of medical problems. For certain emergencies or critical care situations, inmates may be transported to a local hospital. Inmates may request medical or mental health care at any time.
Inmates with mental health issues may be housed in our Olympus facility. The Department also has custody of a growing number of geriatric inmates and has designated two areas at the Utah State Prison to care for them: Lone Peak and Oquirrh 5. Both facilities have ADA accommodations. In addition, younger inmates may be assigned to assist elderly inmates in these areas with daily living tasks. The Wasatch Infirmary has several cells that are designated as short-term care facilities for incapacitated inmates.
