Programs

Community Accountability Boards: These are volunteer citizen boards utilized to consider technical violations of probation/parole and advise staff on solutions and sanctions to modify behavior. These citizen boards meet with offenders to consider violations, recommend sanctions, give encouragement and motivation, and monitor progress. The boards consist of representatives from the community at large. Region Six has a review board in Price and one is being established in Roosevelt. The review board in Price meets on the last Wednesday of each month.

Volunteer/Interns: We utilize volunteers and interns to assist professional staff in case monitoring, secretarial duties, data entry, and pre-sentence investigations.

Offender Transitional Supervision: The first 30 to 90 days of release from prison or starting probation are critical for success. For this time period, agents work to identify problem areas that need attention and provide increased office contact and home visits with agents. They also encourage participation in employment services and attendance of orientation classes.

Orientation Class: Once each month, we hold an orientation class for the offender and one of their family members or a significant other with whom they reside. The class is designed to acquaint these people with our role, the conditions of probation/parole, and how they can assist the offender in successfully completing their period of supervision. The orientation classes are presented on the bi-monthly schedule in the Price Office.

Agent Liaison Partnerships: All of the agents and supervisors in Region Six have assignments to act as liaisons for AP&P with other law enforcement agencies and treatment providers in their areas. These efforts allow AP&P to better supervise offenders and increase their chances for success, while increasing public safety by keeping local law enforcement informed and aware of the offenders living in their jurisdictions.

Halfway Out/Halfway Back Programs: This program is used in each of the county jails that contract with Utah to house State inmates. This program has assisted us in providing alternative events to deal with offender violations.

Mental Health, Substance Abuse, Life Skills (Cognitive Restructuring), and Sex Offender Therapy: All of our treatment options are through community programs and private providers. Most of our offenders must pay their own way for the majority of these programs.

DORA (Drug Offender Reform Act): In 2007, the Utah Legislature passed SB 50, the Drug Offender Reform Act. Offenders who meet the criteria outlined in the law, including conviction of a felony offense after July 1, 2007, are eligible for judicially supervised substance abuse rehabilitation programs. Through close supervision, intensive counseling and education, offenders can change their lives to become drug-free, sober and responsible citizens, parents and family members. Through DORA, AP&P's objective is to reduce the societal impacts and direct costs of substance abuse.

We work with five substance abuse authorities in Region Six to provide services to offenders under DORA supervision.
