Lone Peak is a minimum-security facility intended for offenders who are nearing the end of their sentences. Inmates housed in this facility have earned a high level of privileges through positive behavior and a willingness to adhere to prison rules and protocols. Offenders housed here can generally travel off site under constant officer supervision in order to perform duties with work crews.
Within Lone Peak is one of Draper's two geriatric dormitory housing areas for aging offenders (the other being in the Oquirrhs). The prison makes an effort to house elderly offenders (55+ in the prison system) who might be less able to care for themselves with a younger, more capable offender who can help to take care of them or assist in menial tasks. This also keeps the less able offenders separate from the rest of the population and those offenders who might exploit their disabilities or weaknesses for their own gain. The unit is equipped with special ADA accommodations.
